More than 5,000 PSL students play sports with us. Come discover the 30 different ways you can participate, and earn Athletics credit hours (UE) to boot!

PSL-Sport

Open to all PSL students, faculty and staff, PSL-Sport has something for everyone in the many athletic activities it offers. These include team sports, even rarer ones such as women’s soccer, and individual sports including yoga, zumba, and modern jazz dance, sports often hard to find at other universities.


All athletic facilities are located close-by and sports opportunities are offered midday or after 6pm, times that are compatible with university life.

Registrations are open from October 1st through the following September 30th. See the sports schedule.

Abs & Gluts - Circuit Training - Core Training - Cross Training - Weight Lifting

Abs & Gluts: Monday 12:30pm-2pm

Fun and lively, these group classes keep your heart rate up and sculpt your body with toning exercises.

For anyone looking for a basic workout with focus on toning all areas of the body.

Core Training: Thursday 12pm-1:30pm

Core training is a lively class that stimulates all muscle groups, including the smallest support muscles. Core training strengthens weakened backs and firms the abdominal core.

Cross Training: Saturday 11am-12:30pm

Cross training combines exercises from a variety of disciplines to enhance overall performance.
This class is taught by a leading practitioner in the field.

Weightlifting: Monday 7pm-9pm / Friday 6pm - 7:30pm - 9pm (weight lifting/fitness)

Ideal for exercising at your own pace, choose the areas of the body that you want to work on and clear your head while sculpting your body. Weightlifting is always a resounding success. Whether you train solo or in a group, it’s a sport that offers a multitude of possibilities and a program uniquely tailored to you.

Body Tonic - Pilates - Yoga

Body Tonic: Tuesday 6:30pm-8pm / Wednesday 7pm - 8:30pm / Thursday 12:30pm - 2pm

Group exercise reboot. Energizing and lively, this class works all muscle groups. Ideal for relieving stress in a friendly and fun atmosphere.

Pilates: Thursday 12:15pm-1:45pm

This method invented by Joseph Pilates strengthens the muscles of postural alignment while focusing on breathing in sync with movement and flow.

Yoga: Wednesday 8:30pm-10pm / Thursday 8pm-9pm / Thursday 9pm-10pm

Yoga brings flexibility, body relaxation, strength and inner calm. It provides improved inner harmony and harmony with others. Yoga classes can be relaxing (Hatha yoga) for when you feel agitated, tense or stressed, or can be energizing (Vinyasa yoga) for when you have energy to expend.

Wednesday class: Hatha yoga (traditional class)
Thursday class: 8/9pm: Vinyasa yoga is a more intense form of yoga, providing improved muscle tone, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. Thursday class: 9/10pm: Yin yoga, which grew out of the principles of Taoist yoga, focuses on sustained stretching exercises combined with slow, deep breathing. Postures are held for several minutes at a time.

Fencing - Classical Fencing

Fencing: Wednesday 8pm-10pm / Thursday 7pm-8:30pm

The ECE (Escrime Club Estudiantin) student fencing club offers fencing sessions open to all, regardless of skill. Beginners and experts alike are welcome at the gym at the École Normale Supérieure. The objective of these sessions is not to achieve a specified level of performance; rather, to discover a sport rich in subtleties, make gradual progress with your technique, and above all, to enjoy and have fun.

PSL participants in fencing are asked to pay a supplemental €50 contribution toward equipment purchases.

Fencing - Classical: Friday 7:30pm-9:30pm

Classical fencing is both an athletic activity and a subject of historical academic research on weaponry. Learning to use these age-old weapons is the opportunity to engage in a sport while simultaneously learning its history.

  • Instructor: This class is run and taught by doctoral students from the École Normale Supérieure who are passionate about classical weapons.

Futsal: Wednesday 12pm-2pm (Women’s) / Friday 8pm-10pm

Futsal is a derivative of traditional soccer and is played, theoretically, in teams of 5 against 5 on a handball court. This sport has the advantage of being played indoors and therefore can be played year-round regardless of weather conditions.

Wednesdays are for women’s Futsal, and classes take place in partnership with Paris 5 Descartes under an inter-university agreement.

M/W Rugby: Monday 6pm-10pm

Strength, respect, team spirit. These are the words that define rugby. Each school provides opportunities to play rugby competitively, but PSL-AA also offers rugby to those who want to join rugby practice or simply play it for fun. You, too, can play!

The very popular sport of basketball, in which France has distinguished itself on numerous occasions, combines technical play and team cohesion.  Through PSL-AA, join your teammates on the court to share some good sporting fun.

Handball: Friday 6pm-8pm

Handball is a very popular sport among the French, particularly given France’s national teams’ repeated successes in the sport at the international level.

This well-known team sport is practiced in co-ed teams through PSL-AA. Volleyball affords opportunities to learn about the power of teamwork and team unity.

No registration is required. You can go directly to practice, as long as you have your valid PSL-AA ID card on hand.

Badminton - Climbing - Squash - Open Tennis

Badminton: Tuesday 7pm-8:30pm / 8:30pm-10pm

Much like tennis, badminton is a racket sport between two players (singles) or two pairs of players (doubles) playing from half courts separated by a high net. Badminton is an ideal sport for honing one’s reflexes and responsiveness, and is also highly energizing.

Climbing: Tuesday and Thursday 12pm-1:30pm

Climbing is perfect for learning self-control and confronting one’s fears. It offers an ideal balance between physical and mental training.

Squash: Reserve and pay for your session online

Particularly well-suited to blowing off steam, squash is the perfect sport for those who feel stressed or under pressure. PSL-AA provides access to squash on a self-serve basis. However, for those interested, a few orientation classes are offered throughout the year.

IMPORTANT: To access the squash courts, you must:
Be up to date with your PSL-AA dues (NB: both players must be PSL-AA members)
Have reserved a slot (€8 for 45 minutes, i.e., €4 per person) here: www.squash.dauphine.fr
Arrive at the Security Desk 10 minutes before your slot to submit your reservation and payment certificate. The security guard will give you your court access card in exchange for an ID card, and will light the court for you.

Boxing - Karate - Krav Maga

Come discover this “noble art” in a studious and friendly atmosphere at the École Normale Supérieure. Boxing brings the opportunity to find proper balance between strength, tactical skill and self-control. Learn as much about yourself as you will about the sport. Don’t miss out!

Karate is an offensive and defensive combat sport that has enjoyed longstanding popularity.

Krav Maga: Friday 6:30pm-8pm

A sport increasingly seen at gyms, Krav Maga is a form of contact combat used for self-defense. Originally practiced in the Warsaw ghetto, Krav Maga is now a key element of basic self-defense training in the Israeli military. Krav Maga provides an apprenticeship in strength.

Biking - Groug jogs

Biking: Saturday 9:30am-12pm

Started by a group of students at Mines ParisTech, this team meets every Saturday morning at a predetermined location for group rides. Rides around the Clamart region and around the Longchamp and Vincennes racetracks have been organized in the past.

Manon, our resident student running aficionado, will lead you on runs through Paris.

Modern Jazz Dance - Le Rock - Zumba

Modern Jazz Dance: Tuesday 8pm-9pm (beginners) / Tuesday 9pm-10pm (advanced)

Modern jazz is a vibrant, rhythmic, technical form of dance, blending techniques from classical dance and a variety of dance forms with African American roots. Very popular today, modern jazz is a great way to blow off steam while moving to engaging, modern beats.

Le Rock: Thursday 7pm-9pm

French rock (Le Rock) is a partner dance form born in the 20th century. Distant cousin of U.S. swing dancing, it is distinguished by its looser technique and for its widespread popularity among college students. Whether you are looking to learn from scratch, improve your form, or get back into the swing, all are welcome! Classes focus on a variety of topics (technique, musicality, posture, style, vibrancy, space management) and include practical exercises to music.

Quite popular for several years now, Zumba is a dance fitness class that combines moves from several types of South American dance and is set to lively, energetic beats. No need to be a good dancer! All you need to do is follow the instructor’s lead. You’ll blow off steam and have a ball while doing it. PSL-AA offers 3 Zumba classes per week, taught by certified and reputable instructors.

Rowing - Open Swim

Rowing: Friday: 1pm-3pm

Balancing, steering, propelling - the 3 main actions with an oar! Come feel the gliding sensations proffered by this whole-body, technical sport while taking in the silence and beauty of the famous shorelines of the Marne river in Joinville-le-Pont.

PSL Sport is pleased to offer open swimming. The pool is monitored by a lifeguard, but the lifeguard does not teach.
This is an ideal opportunity for swimming laps once a week.

Horseback Riding - Golf - Skydiving

Horseback Riding: Thursday 12:15pm - 1h15

New this year, provided through the ENA’s Athletics Association, which has reserved 3 spots for us.
Each week, you’ll take riding lessons at the École Militaire with a riding instructor from the French Army, on horses of the Garde Républicaine.
Class open only to those who have passed the “Gallop 6” and “Gallop 7” levels.
Registration with the PSL Athletics secretariat is required (as-psl@univ-psl.fr), as well as a one-time €900 fee for the academic year.

Golf: Monday 2pm-4:30pm

PSL-AA’s golf class is for golfers of all levels (beginners and advanced). The practice of golf brings improved motor skills, focus and self-control. Golf is an ideal sport for relaxing and decompressing.
NB: Dauphine-PSL was Men’s and Team Champions of France in 2017.

Skydiving

Skydo Dauphine is an association that promotes skydiving among PSL students. Whether you’d just like to try it out, or see yourself as a future skydiving competitor, Skydo is your door to the skies--provided you can get past the door on the plane! Because students are not known for being cash-rich, Skydo Dauphine offers free classroom training at Dauphine, and also the least expensive options for beginners’ skydiving in France.

Circus Arts

Circus Arts: Saturday 2:30pm-6:30pm

Fun and amusing, the circus arts are a way to exercise without even realizing it. Perfect for decompressing and having a ball while learning how to balance and let go.

PSL Sport is particularly pleased and proud to announce the partnership agreement we have signed with Aquaboulevard-Forest Hill clubs.
Yet another opportunity in addition to those you’ve already read about!

All PSL Sport members have year-round access to Forest Hill.
The Carte Pacha is available to you for €200 tax inclusive (annual membership) instead of the regular €984 tax inclusive fee.
The Forest-Hill and Aquaboulevard clubs boast 8 locations around Paris with full-service exercise and relaxation services.

Athletics Credit Unit (UE)

All PSL-Sport athletics are compatible with student curricula at all PSL institutions, through the Athletics credit unit (UE). Each UE credit unit is graded on a scale of 20/20, and includes points for attendance (mandatory), participation and investment.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ATHLETICS UE:

  1. Provide students the opportunity to become familiar with the practice of one or two physical or athletic activities during school hours.
  2. Provide athletic students the opportunity to obtain credit for representing PSL and their school at competitions at the university level as well as locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
  3. Provide students opportunities to become fully engaged by organizing a sport at their school or a sports competition among PSL institutions.
  4. Spur thought on the practice of athletics and more generally the practice of sports.
  5. Present athletic activity as a key component of comprehensive education of the mind and intellect, through familiarity with one’s motor skills.
  6. Incorporate athletics into PSL’s cross-institutional curricula.
