École des hautes études en sciences sociales

Since 1947, EHESS has contributed to the development of paradigms and theories that have brought a fresh approach to and a renewed spotlight on the human and social sciences, from the works of Fernand Braudel, Pierre Bourdieu, Jacques Derrida and Claude Lévi-Strauss, to those of Françoise Héritier and Thomas Piketty

Home to researchers and students from the world over, EHESS has built a formidable international network including research centers dedicated to the great cultural arenas (South Asia, Oceania, Russia and the Caucasus, the Americas) that work closely with experts in specific fields (anthropology, history, economics, psychology) and on specific topics (religions, politics, sciences, arts, languages). With its cultural awareness, focus on critical thinking, interdisciplinarity, and inclusion of the research seminar, EHESS is an unwavering center for innovation in the social sciences. Its more than 1,000 seminars per year, close to 3,000 students and over 800 research professors and researchers have collectively contributed to EHESS’s status as a key center of intellectual inquiry in France.
